The analytical engine

FluviOS

FluviOS is the analytical engine of Fluvial Engineering Inc. It comprises the methodology applied on a project, the software that implements it, and the record of the analysis.

Interface concept. The catchment and its channel network are delineated from a synthetic elevation model; the discharge record and the water balance are illustrative, and no client project is shown.

FluviOS is a maintained set of analytical modules. Each module pairs a documented methodology with the software that implements it, under version control. A project is configured from the modules the assessment requires, and the configuration forms part of the project record.

An analysis run within FluviOS records its input datasets, parameters, module versions, and outputs. That record is retained with the deliverable and remains retrievable after issue, so a result can be reproduced from the inputs and the module version used to produce it. Methodology is revised at the module, and a revision applies to subsequent projects without re-derivation.

FluviOS is the mechanism by which the quality management and chain-of-custody provisions of the firm's Professional Practice Management Plan are applied to analytical work.

The current release operates on surface systems in two dimensions. fluvios3D extends the engine to the subsurface and its geological framework. fluvios4D adds continuous monitoring and sensor time series. Both are in development.

Where to see it

The Watershed Explorer is the public surface of the engine, built on open hydrological data. Project work carried out on FluviOS reaches clients through the client gateway.
